Our History
The Gargour Legacy
Founded in Jaffa, Palestine in 1928, T. Gargour & Fils (TGF) was built on the vision of Tawfiq Gargour and his four sons. Beginning in trade with orange exports, the company quickly expanded across industries, forming partnerships in sectors from steel to food.
A defining moment came in 1936, when TGF exchanged shiploads of oranges for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, marking the beginning of a long-standing relationship that shaped the company’s growth. By the 1960s, TGF had expanded its operations across 15 countries, spanning the Middle East, Europe, and beyond.
In 1953, Gargour Shipping Company was established, acting as the agent of the first vessel to call at Aqaba Port, which laid the foundation for its role in the region’s maritime sector. In the decades that followed, the company expanded its capabilities through Associated Levant Lines, operating a fleet specializing in reefer cargo between Europe and the Levant.
Throughout its evolution, Gargour Shipping has played a key role in major regional projects, including the Tanga Grain Project (1984–1990), which handled up to 2 million tons of grain annually, and is another example of our reputation for scale, reliability, and execution.
